Dr. Catherine Meeks, retired Clara Carter Acree Distinguished Professor of Social Science and Professor of Socio-Cultural Studies at Wesleyan College, has accepted an invitation to speak at our 25th Anniversary Conference. Dr. Meeks’ books include Standing on Their Shoulders: A Celebration of the Wisdom of African American Women and Bears and Butterflies: A Way to Listen to Your Hearts. She currently has her own consulting and coaching business, Kayma and Associates. She writes regularly for The Huffington Post and The Telegraph (Macon, GA).
Dr. Meeks has won numerous awards, including:
- NAACP Outstanding Community Service Award,
- W.E.B. Dubois Award for Outstanding Service to the African American Community (National Association of Social and Behavioral Scientists),
- Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter Partnership Award for Campus-Community Collaboration, and
- Georgia Sociologist of the Year (2006).
Deeply committed to nonviolence, Dr. Meeks has been a long-time supporter of Consistent Life. She is noted for her storytelling style, which has made her a popular speaker. We think you will find her presentation at the Conference very rewarding.
